About Us
T'ang Dance Project was founded in North Borneo, shaped in Singapore, and now based in London, a cross-border collective created by Sook Kuan in 2016. Upholding her passion to inspire a true love of humanity through the mimicry of life and nature, the collective is driven by true stories from diverse cultural backgrounds. We blend dance, theatre, and storytelling to create performances that transcend borders, celebrate authenticity, and challenge the liminal space between artistic forms. With a commitment to artistic integrity and emotional depth, we craft works that resonate with the human spirit, inviting audiences to experience powerful narratives that move beyond language and cultural divides. Since its inception, T'ang Dance Project has been actively involved in dance theatre making and movement projects across Southeast Asia and now in London.

Authentic Storytelling Across Cultures
Drawing from true stories across cultures, we weave the raw authenticity of human experience into performances that are both compelling and transcend borders.
Challenging the Liminal Space Between Dance and Theatre
Blurring the lines between dance and theatre, we explore the spaces in between, creating work that defies convention and invites new ways of seeing.
Artistic Integrity & Emotional Depth
Committed to excellence in every aspect of creation, the collective produces works that resonate emotionally and intellectually, grounded in a commitment to truthful and genuine expression.

Sook Kuan, Tang

Sook Kuan is an independent Malaysian dance and theatre maker, currently based in London, pursuing an MA Theatre Lab at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). With a Master's in Creative Arts from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), she has over a decade of experience as a dance lecturer, choreographer, and performer.
Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in ritual and shamanic dance practices from Sabah, shaping her work's authenticity and emotional depth. As a choreographer, her internationally recognized works include Tapang Tree—a finalist at the 2nd Solo & Duo Challenge for MASDANZA (Korea, 2017)—and selections at Yamagata Documentary Dojo (Japan, 2018) and Visions du Réel (Switzerland, 2020). In 2016, she founded T'ang Dance Project, a creative platform dedicated to crafting dance theatre works that merge movement, theatre and storytelling. Through T'ang Dance Project, Sook Kuan fosters cross-disciplinary collaborations, pushing the boundaries of dance and theatre to create immersive, thought-provoking experiences. She weaves movement and storytelling into deeply evocative performances, striving to awaken a profound connection between people, their histories, and the world they inhabit.
